Solid & Hazardous Waste Laboratory
Characterising solid wastes through physical, chemical, and field analysis.
Laboratory Overview
The Solid & Hazardous Waste Laboratory (Laboratorium Buangan Padat dan B3) was established in 1987 as the Solid Waste Laboratory. It pioneered specialist characterisation of solid and hazardous wastes in Indonesia.
Initially focused on physical and chemical analysis of refuse, its scope expanded with the development of laboratory facilities and equipment. The laboratory analyses a range of solid materials, including waste, sludge, soil, and hazardous waste.

Laboratory Analyses
The documented scope is organised into physical, chemical, and field analysis. Contact the laboratory to discuss methods, sample requirements, and testing availability.
Physical Analysis
- Waste composition, density, and physical characteristics.
- Proximate analysis: moisture, volatile matter, and fixed carbon.
- Ultimate analysis: C, H, O, N, S, Cl, and other applicable elements.
- Heating values: higher heating value (HHV) and lower heating value (LHV).
- Leaching and durability testing.
Chemical Analysis
- Organic carbon.
- Total Kjeldahl nitrogen (TKN).
- Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure (TCLP), including listed elements such as As, Ba, Cd, Cr, Cu, Pb, Hg, Ag, Se, and Zn.
- Heavy metals in waste.
- Metal oxides including SiO₂, Al₂O₃, Fe₂O₃, CaO, and MgO.
Field Analysis
- Sampling and analysis of solid wastes, including refuse, sludge, and fly ash/bottom ash.
- Sampling and analysis of municipal and industrial waste generation.
- Leachate sampling and analysis.
- Biogas sampling and analysis.
- Soil sampling and analysis.
- Waste treatability assessment.
- Mass-flow analysis, particularly for municipal and hazardous wastes.
