Industrial Hygiene & Toxicology Laboratory

Connecting workplace environmental health, toxicology, and practical environmental research.

Laboratory Overview

The Industrial Hygiene & Toxicology Laboratory (Laboratorium Higiene Industri dan Toksikologi, Lab HI) supports education and research in workplace environmental health and toxicology within ITB’s Environmental Engineering program.

Established in 1976, the laboratory develops expertise in identifying, evaluating, and controlling workplace risk factors, including their toxicological aspects.

Its activities span physical, chemical, biological, and ergonomic factors, alongside food and beverage sanitation, appropriate environmental technology, and disease vector control. Practical work and research connect field needs with scientific approaches.

Areas of Expertise & Analysis

The laboratory’s documented scope covers six areas. Contact the team to discuss the method, sample requirements, and availability relevant to your study.

Industrial Hygiene & Occupational Safety

Measurement and evaluation of physical, chemical, biological, and ergonomic workplace factors, ventilation and noise, together with occupational safety management system (SMK3) audits and implementation.

Toxicology

Toxicity studies including LC₅₀, LD₅₀, subacute and chronic testing, mutagenicity and carcinogenicity testing, and assessment of waste and treatment-product toxicity.

Food & Beverage Sanitation

Food-quality assessment from raw materials through serving, including food-safety analysis using HACCP.

Appropriate Environmental Technology

Development and assessment of water-supply, wastewater, and solid-waste technologies, including their technical and social aspects.

Disease Vector Control

Identification and evaluation of disease vectors and assessment of pesticide resistance.

Environmental Measurements

Field measurement of noise, lighting, temperature, and other physical environmental parameters.

Education, Research & Collaboration

Practical Learning

Students develop experience in workplace environmental-health and toxicological analysis through laboratory practical work.

Research & Method Development

Academic staff, students, and researchers investigate environmental factors and develop analytical methods.

Studies, Surveys & Consultation

Collaboration with external partners connects practical environmental and workplace questions with scientific investigation.
